Terrorist atack in Russian airport

A suicide bomber blew himself up at the arrivals area of the Domodedovo International Airport , outside Moscow, on the afternoon of Monday (24), local time. The terrorist added nails and metal fragments to the homemade bomb to cause harm. Thirty five were killed and 150 wounded, of which 20 are in serious condition.


Russia meets today a day of mourning for the victims of the attack. Even though the attack on Monday has not yet been claimed, it follows the methods of the double attack of March 29, 2010 against the Moscow underground system, where two women from the North Caucasus blew themselves up, killing over 50 people . This was claimed by the Islamist group self-appointed "Caucasus Emirate", led by former separatist Chechen rebel Doku Umarov.

Sadia launches advertising campaign over brand strength in Russia

Fashion in the Post-Soviet countries...memories

When I was a teenager I thought that brand was everything. If anyone I knew wore Tommy Hilfiger or Lacoste...Goodness...that person was too fancy for me:)

I remember one time my father was talking to a man, perhaps his friend, and I was beside them, just looking. When he left I turned to my father and said: "Our father, your friend is rich, right? His shirt is Paul & Shark. " My father looked at me and said: "He is not rich daughter, he just does not live in Ukraine!" At that moment I understood almost nothing of what my father said. Like how the fact that he does not live in Ukraine can influence this situation? It should be the opposite! He must be rich! Very rich!

Time passed and I moved to London, spent a little time in Germany and now I live in Brazil. And I think only now I understood the words of my father. But let 's start from the beginning:)

Back in the day we used to use fakes: handbags, shoes, coats, glasses ... It seemed that there even were some true brands in the stores (which I doubt), but the price was very high and totally out of reach for a simple person. Only if his father was from the mafia and if he accepted bribes than, yes. It might be possible that in this type of family you can see little children using Calvin Klein dresses and their mothers their tight jeans full of glitter and gold studs with words DOLCE & GABBANA written in the entire ass. And everyone with those glasses "Prada" or "Gucci", flashing for everyone to see. Most of the time nothing was genuine, but it was sold as it were. Or, indeed, doesn't matter if the clothes were fake or not...It was all about the brand!

You would be (today is still like this) considered super "in fashion" not because you know how to match the colors or use the latest fashion trends. No...You have to have brands! This is obligatory! Do you already have some? Then you surely would be a part of the most stylish group in town! Whoohoo! ;-) 

Later, while living in London, I realized that brand is nothing. I donated my entire warderobe, which was full of "false friends":) I bought some Levi's, Boycut Baggy jeans with holes (!) And a white Converse All Star, which I wanted to make dirty as soon as possible, because that was the fashion in London. Actually, it was not really fashionable, but it was stylish! Simple as that! 

So why the friend of my father was Paul&Shark that day? First, because Paul&Shark over there, where he lived was half price cheaper than in Ukraine. And another thing ...Paul & Shark is nothing! Because brand means nothing to people who take care of their style!

Janusz Leon Wisniewski

The famous Polish writer visited the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and presented his new book. He also participated in an autograph session and, of course, answered some questions from the readers. Janusz admitted that literature became his mistress after a divorce that occurred in his life, and then on the question who is then his wife responds: "a science." 


"I'm in Kiev for the second time. You have a beautiful architecture, beautiful people and beautiful women." - Praising everything and surprising everyone with his knowledge of Russian language, along with native Polish, German and English. 

According to Wisniewski, the literature, his "lover" came into his life in adulthood, at age 44. In 1997 I was very sad because of my personal life and wanted to go to a therapist, but it was cheaper to write books at that moment I thought it would be better if I talked to MYSELF." - Said the writer. Janusz drew attention to the fact that he never wanted to publish his writings, but one day he had drunk too much wine and sent his first book "Loneliness in the net" for a literary critic online. In the morning he was already regretting about doing this. All books by the author, according to his definition are about love."I'm interested in love with different points of view. It is worth living just for the love." - said the Polish romantic.

The process of writing is different for everyone."I always listen to the music when I write and I always drink wine. I write at night, at dawn, never write by hand, but on the computer. Sometimes I read Sergey Yesenin (Russian poet of the twentieth century), his poems are so sad. Sometimes I listen t Leonard Cohen (Canadian poet and singer)" - says Leon. 

Janusz is convinced that happy people cannot write books, writing requests sadness. "Happy people do not write books, they are so busy with his own happiness. It's boring to write about happiness." - Concluded the writer. He also confessed that he doesn't write for the readers, but for himself only. "It's very selfish, but true" - smiles the author.

Today is the "Old" New year!

Or as we call it: The New Year according to the old style. How did it all begin?

The tradition of celebrating another New Year Eve on the 13 of January was born when the world was still using the Julian calendar and not the Gregorian. The discrepancy between the calendars in the XX-XXIcenturies is 13 days.

The Old New Year is a very interesting historical phenomenon, it prolongs the feeling of festivity and celebration that brings miracle to us.

So the Russians are always celebrating the two New Years. One, more hectic, with friends, fireworks,champagne, and the other more peaceful and quiet, usually only celebrated with family at home, watching television. Sometimes it can be on the contrary, but this subject is already something personal.

The second New Year also helps religious people (Russian Orthodox) who are fasting 40 days before Christmas, which is celebrated on January the 7th. Normally, they cannot enjoy the traditional dishes from the table on 31st of December, but already on the 13th of January can eat freely and without any sin.

The tradition to celebrate the Old New Year began in 1918. Even with the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukrainians, Armenians, Moldovans, Belarusian, Lithuanian, Georgian, Kazakh, as well as other Slavic citizens of former Soviet republics, have maintained the custom.

The Old New Year is also celebrated in Serbia and Montenegro, because the Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as Russian Federation continues to live according to the Julian calendar. This celebration is also a part of the tradition in Macedonia and in some German-speaking cantons in Switzerland.

Rio is closer now!!

The first direct flight from Russia to Brazil arrived today in Rio de Janeiro from the cold Moscow town.
The Boeing 747 of the air company "Transaero" with three hundred Russian tourists on board exceeded almost 12,000 km in 12 hours.
For now, the Moscow-Rio flights will be made once a week. The issue of establishing direct flights between the two countries was raised last year in the meeting between the presidents of Russia and Brazil.
Russians and Brazilians since the June 2010 no longer need a visa to visit each other.
